It will be an incredibly stressful year but you will survive. As will those you love. You will have life changing experiences that bring together the best of what you have to offer. Hang in there. Take breaks, drink water and ask for and accept offers of help. By September there will be a shift, the darkness breaks and you'll feel lightness. You will receive more of everything you've dreamt of by the end of the year.

I've just spent the last couple of days in Adelaide celebrating the retirement of a dear friend and catching up with old friends.

I spent formative years in Adelaide (uni, early career, first wedding, first home, first baby) and it holds a very special place in my heart. Do you have a heart home?

We’re all aware of - and probably experienced somewhere along the line - rebellion in adolescence🖕 It’s often connected to this thing called individuation - we’re becoming our own person and moving into adulthood.

Ending my marriage was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but it was also the most courageous.

It was the most emotionally difficult thing I've ever done, and I am proud of myself to this day.

Proud that in midlife I had the courage to want something different for my life, even though the impact would ripple through so many lives. Most importantly, my kids.

And ever since then, my radar is tuned to all the women who have the same longing or are in the middle of are out the other side.

We're a particular kind. We're stong and brave. And if it's going to happen, midlife will give you the push that can be hard to ignore.

Because if not now, then when?

Last Saturday as the room filled up and then overflowed, I was gobsmacked. The same workshop the day before had far exceeded the numbers I was expecting (honestly, about 10 women!). But this was double plus.

'We're going to need a bigger room if you come back next year' the @sevensistersfestival space guardian- room helper - said at the end.

Yes! Because so many of us in midlife crave authentic connections, vulnerability and to feel not so fucking alone. We want to share our stories and be witnessed.

We have so much to say of the freedom but also the awakenings and realisations, the exhaustion of constantly prioritising others. The guilt and shame. The longings for better, more. Of feeling lost, courageous, ready, scared.

I want to keep having these conversations, in small and big rooms. Written words are fine, but it's in conversation together that we feel the energy and the possibility of midlife as a time to live authentic and free🔥

✨When I challenged my rigid ideas of what constituted 'real' exerise and embraced walking

✨It happened when I decided to leave a 'perfectly fine' marriage.

✨When I chose a man who had an Android instead of iPhone🫣

But the bottom line?

You start breaking your own rules when you start trusting yourself.

And one of the biggest challenges, but hell yeah opportunities, of midlife?

To learn that you really can trust yourself.

You are safe to be trusted, irrespective of what you've been told or shown about who has more knowledge or power than you.

You can trust yourself.

For many of us in midlife, trusting ourselves is an act of rebellion💪

Just wait until you start breaking your own rules🥳
